Weekly Workouts – Runs in the Sun & a Run Coaching Giveaway!

It’s currently mid-August and the weather here in Pittsburgh is pretty sunny and hot almost everyday. I am not going to lie – I love it! I am one of those odd people who doesn’t mind running in heat and I would much rather have scorching hot weather than blistering cold weather! Therefore, I have been enjoying my runs this week very much. This is one of my favorite times of year to run! Today I want to give you an update of my weekly workouts and a Run Coaching Giveaway!

I’m 2 weeks in to my 30 Day Wellness Challenge and so far it’s going well. I have not drank any alcohol in over 2 weeks and I have not had any caffeinated coffee. The coffee has been the hardest part. I will admit that I did have one cup of green tea last week during a particularly weak moment, but still going strong with no coffee! The other parts of the wellness challenge have also been going well! 2 more weeks to go!

As far as running, right now I’m working on building up my base mileage after taking it very easy in June and July after I ran the Pittsburgh Half Marathon (virtually). I have no virtual races on the horizon, so I’m just running for the pure enjoyment of it right now.

One of our favorite things to do in the summer is to go on family walks in the evening! It’s a time for us to bond as a family and spend time together in a healthy way! Lately Ethan has really been enjoying the rides in the stroller too! He likes to point out all the cars he sees during the walks.

Monday: 3 mile run

Monday was a very hot run, but I still enjoyed it! Listened to the Dave Ramsey Podcast – my favorite! (I’m a personal finance junkie!)

Tuesday: 2 mile family walk

Wednesday: 3 mile run, 2 mile family walk

Listened to the Relatable Runners Podcast – I made a guest appearance in episode 18!

Thursday: 3 mile family walk

1 mile walk over lunch with my husband. 2 mile walk in the evening with husband and son in the stroller.

Friday: 2 mile run

This was a nice easy run with some cooler weather. It was a nice relaxing run!

Saturday: 2 mile family walk

Sunday: 2 mile family walk, 3 mile run

  1. That’s so great that you love hot running! While I love summer heat, and I’d never wish it away, running feels so much better to me when it’s cool. I’ve been taking it easy and enjoying trail runs all summer long. It may be time to reincorporate a weekly visit to the track for some speedwork though!

    1. Thanks Marcia! I know, I have been loving trail runs too. I’d like to visit a track to do some speedwork soon too!

  2. Wow giving up both coffee and alcohol at the same time! Ambitious ๐Ÿ™‚ but good for you. I am really not a lover of the hot and humid weather for running. I am eagerly awaiting the cooler temps of fall and upping my mileage again then. Thanks for linking up today! Entering your giveaway as well

    1. Thanks Deborah! I know, I am a fan of fall too and I’m looking forward to the cooler temps and pretty leaves! ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. No real running goals at the moment – without something to train for I’m just kinda running as I feel like it.

Nice that you enjoy summer running! I’m definitely much more of a fall weather runner – the minute the temps dip into the 50s I’m a happy girl ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. I know, it’s so hard to have running goals with no races! I am looking forward to the fall too!

  4. Running in the heat just wears me out altogether. Good thing it cooled off for a bit this week!

I like to plan & go on some short day trips with my husband & the pups. Not easy pleasing them all, but I do my best!

    1. That sounds nice! I love short day trips! Hoping to do another outdoor day trip soon!

  5. I’m not a fan of running in the heat–but I do love summer! I run outside all year long, so I’m pretty adaptable.

I love Laura too–she’s just so knowledgeable!

    1. That’s good, same here! I have a treadmill in my home gym so even when the weather is crazy I have a way to run!

  6. High-5!! Iโ€™m a heat-loving runner, too…we got to stick together. You probably saw that any running goals of mine are on hold on until October (at the absolute earliest. Thanks for joining us on the linkup!

    1. Haha! Yes, we have to stick together! ๐Ÿ™‚ Feel better soon and thanks for the linkup!

  7. Wow, good for you got taking a break from alcohol and caffeine at the same time! I gave up coffee for Lent one year and it was tough, especially the first week or so. I definitely prefer running in the summer to running in the winter. This year has just been so warm and humid though.

    1. Yes, it is so tough! I figured if I could do it for 9 months of pregnancy I could handle 30 days!? I know, it really has been humid!

  8. Great job!

I did achieve most of my goals this week. I want to build in a bit more strength but I will get there!

    What a great giveaway!

    1. Thanks Jenn! I’m glad you reached your goals. I am trying to incorporate more strength into my routine too! Have a great week!

  9. You must indeed love the heat – I am noticing you are wearing short sleeve shirts and not tank tops in your pictures! My running wardrobe doesn’t have many days that don’t include tank tops if it’s over 55 degrees ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Haha! Yes, you’re right! I guess it doesn’t bother me? ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. No coffee and and no alcohol? Wow! I can do without the alcohol but definitely not the coffee. That I really need it in my life.

I am OK with the hot weather but it is the humidity that ruins it for me. Fall if my favorite season for running!

    1. I know, it is so hard!! I am excited for fall running season to be here too!

  11. Awesome giveaway! Just signed up. Well done on giving up alcohol and coffee! I’d also struggle without coffee. It’s become such a ritual for me!

    1. Hi Shathiso, thanks for signing up!!! I know, coffee is definitely the hardest to refrain from!

  12. This is brilliant. I so wish I was someone who liked running as it looks so satisfying. Well done too in keeping to those goals. Thanks also for linking to my meme.

    1. Thanks Julie for the linkup!
