Underrated Running Gear

As runners, we put a lot of focus on getting the right running gear. One of the first things we usually think about is getting some high-quality running shoes. But other important pieces of running gear are often overlooked.

I’ve learned over the years that some items are essential on my runs.

In this post, I’ll share some important and often overlooked pieces of running gear!

Glow Vest/Reflective Gear

During the winter, a lot of my runs happen in the evenings. Since it gets dark early in the winter, that means a lot of my runs happen when it’s dark outside.

I always consider safety when I run outside at night. When I’m running outside, I want cars to be able to see me easily.

One of my favorite new running investments is the Noxgear Tracer360. The bright lights are very visible in the dark and it flashes in a lot of cool colors!

Running Socks

In the running community, we put a lot of emphasis on the importance of having good running shoes. Something that doesn’t get talked about as much is the importance of good running socks.

Having a good pair of running socks can be the difference between a great run and a terrible run with pain and blisters. Having good socks can really make or break a run.

When looking for running socks, you should look for cushioned, moisture-wicking socks that will keep your feet dry and comfortable on your run.

Adidas has some really great running socks. One of my favorite pairs is the Adidas SUPERLITE STRIPE 2.0 LOW-CUT SOCKS.

Pepper Spray for Runners

As a female, I always have to think about my safety when I am running outside. I recently started carrying SABRE RED Pepper Gel Spray for Runners with me on my runs.

It really helps me to feel safe and protected during my runs. I ordered this cute pink color and it also comes with an adjustable hand strap so that it is easy and convenient to carry.

RoadID

Another recent running gear investment I made was a RoadID. RoadID offers many different forms of identification that you can wear while you run. It is smart to have this if something were to happen to you during a run.

You can list emergency contact information, your allergies, and anything else that you think is important.

I recently got the Wrist ID Elite in Rose Gold and I love it! It matches my Garmin perfectly.

Sun Protection

It is extremely important for runners to protect themselves from harmful UV radiation when running outside. According to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), the majority of skin cancers are attributable to ultraviolet radiation from the sun.

Runners should be sure to reduce exposure to these harmful rays to protect themselves from skin cancer and premature aging. To do this, it’s important to apply sunscreen of at least 30 SPF before each outdoor run.

I also like to wear a hat to protect my face from direct sunlight while I run. I love the Adidas Trefoil Baseball Cap.
